Packing a sealed delivery order against the ticket

Missing item claims are the most common reason money flows back out of a delivery order. The customer is refunded, the platform passes the cost to the store, and the kitchen never even hears about it.

The cheapest dispute is the one you never have to file. Most missing item claims trace back to a handful of preventable moments between the ticket printing and the driver walking out.

Where claims actually come from

  • Rushed handoffs at peak. Bags leave before someone checks the ticket against the contents.
  • Unsealed bags. Anything open invites both honest mix-ups and less honest claims.
  • Multi-bag orders. The driver grabs one bag of two, and the missing half becomes your charge.
  • Drinks and sides. The items most often left behind are the ones prepped at a different station than the main order.

Habits that stop claims at the source

Pack to the ticket, not from memory

A physical check of every line item before the bag closes is the single highest-value habit. Make it the packer's job, not the expediter's afterthought.

Seal every bag, every time

Tamper seals or stapled receipts make disputes far stronger. A sealed bag shifts the question from your kitchen to what happened after pickup.

Label multi-bag orders clearly

"1 of 2" stickers cost almost nothing and remove the easiest failure mode for drivers.

Stage drinks with the order

Drinks belong physically next to the bag they complete, not in a separate cluster the driver has to remember.

Photograph high-value orders

For catering-size tickets, a quick photo of the sealed order is cheap insurance and strong dispute evidence.

When a claim lands anyway

Prevention lowers the volume. It never gets it to zero. When claims come in, dispute the ones your process says are wrong, with the seals, labels, and photos as evidence.

If filing those disputes consistently is the bottleneck, that is the part Restaurant Logistics runs for you, across every platform, on performance only.
